Island-wide Overview
The current Hawai'i County General Plan, approved in 2005 by the County Council, is the overall planning document for Hawai'i island. The General Plan mandates districts within the County to plan for the future through implementation of Community Development Plans (CDPs).

At this time, the Kona and Puna CDP's are well underway. Kona started first, followed by Puna, as these two districts are currently seen to have the most pressing need for the CDP process. More recently, North Kohala and South Kohala have started on their CDP processes.
