Are You Prepared for an Emergency?

Attend the CERT Workshop in Your District!

CERT training on Hawaii Island begins this summer in Ocean View.  This training consists of a series of four sessions that are hosted by the Hawaii County Civil Defense, Fire Department and the Hawaii County Resource Center, a program of the Department of Research and Development. The July 28th session will be at the Ocean View Fire Station 20, and the August 4, 11, and 18 sessions will be at the Ocean View Community Association Building.

Ocean View community members will learn about emergency response procedures and understand their roles and functions in the event of a major emergnecy or natural disaster that affect their community. This knowledge is important because a neighborhood may be on its own during the early stages of a major emergency or disaster.  Also, after an emergency, citizens will volunteer to help.  Without proper training, these people can expose themselves to potential injury, even death.  Experience has shown that basic training in emergency response and rescue skills improves the ability of citizens to survive until responders or other assistance arrives.

A trained Community Emergency Response Team will provide services that will:

  • Increase their neighborhood's disaster readiness
  • Assess damage after a disaster
  • Extinguish small fires and teach fire safety
  • Perform basic rescue operations and provide first aid
  • Organize procurement of supplies

CERT trainings will be available in districts island wide!  Event postings are forthcoming.
